The number of divorce cases has increased dramatically in recent years. Couples must stay together for at least one year before filing for divorce. If there were no such law, divorce cases would have been filed directly from the marriage hall,” Raghunath said.

Raghunath also said that divorce petitions are filed for many strange reasons. Spouses are being told to get divorced for various reasons, including not talking, adding salt to the wrong side of food, wearing the wrong color wedding dress, not going for a walk, the judges said.
“More divorce filings come from urban areas than rural areas. In rural areas, the village panchayats settle disputes between the two. There is not much freedom for women. He adapts to the situation out of fear of society and family feelings. But in the cities, women are educated and financially capable,” Raghunath said.
