TikTok is considering a return to the Indian market. The parent company of this social media platform, ByteDance, is looking for new partners in India to re-enter the field. The popular short video sharing platform was banned by the Indian government in 2020. The government cited national security reasons for the ban, and Tiktok hasn’t been available in India since.
But that is likely to change soon, according to sources familiar with the matter. The Chinese company is reportedly in talks with Hiranandani Group for a partnership. Hiranandani Group is a Mumbai-based company that operates a data center under Yotta Infrastructure Solutions. According to sources, the two companies are currently in talks and are in the final stages.

However, the sources said that central government officials were informed about the scheme informally. A senior government official also said: “We haven’t had any formal discussions yet. But, we have been informed of the plans. We will investigate when they come to us for approval.”

Uncertainty about the storage of user data was one of the main reasons behind TickTock’s ban in India. “Important user data should not be stored outside of India,” a government official said. All apps and websites provide for local data storage or make necessary changes to their data storage and processing policies. If TickTock comes back, they will have to follow these rules.
