Rahata: Today, on the fourth day, Agriculture Minister Dada Bhuse met with the farmers of Puntambe in the ongoing agitation over various farmers’ demands. He also contacted Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar by phone. After the three-hour meeting, 15 demands were discussed.
A meeting has now been arranged at the Ministry on Tuesday (December 7) under the chairmanship of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. After Bhuse promised to make a decision in the interest of the farmers and after discussion, the central committee of ‘Kisan Kranti’ announced that the dam agitation was postponed for 2 days. Through ‘Kisan Kranti’, the Puntambe farmers had started the ‘Dharne Andolan’ since June 1 due to various demands. Today was the fourth day of the turmoil. Agriculture Minister Bhuse himself visited the site of unrest and discussed the farmers’ problems with the central committee.
Agriculture Minister Bhuse said Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray is sensitive to farmers’ problems. He has listened to the demands of the Puntambe farmers by phone. Farmers have 15 different demands. Some of these demands are related to various departments such as Agriculture, Cooperation and Marketing, Finance, Energy, Dairy Development, Farm Price Commission. Some of the demands are related to the central government.
The government has already made many decisions in the interest of farmers. Through the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Debt Relief Scheme, 32 lakh farmers have received direct credit of Rs. In the second phase of this scheme, Rs 50,000 will be given to farmers who repay the loan regularly. The list of eligible farmers will be announced soon.
