The farmers of Punatamba (Tal. Rahata, Nagar) had started the agitation five years ago with the unprecedented concept of ‘Farmers’ Strike’. It was beginning to take on a state appearance. However, the protesters had already divided. Most of the questions remained ‘as is’. Now again the peasants of Punatamba have begun the agitation. Raju Shetty has reacted to this scenario. “As all the issues of agriculture and peasants are related to the politics of the central government, the Punatamba movement will not go far.” This was stated by the leader of Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana, Raju Shetty, while speaking to the media.
During the Kuktoli oxcart race held in Kavthemahankal taluka, Shetty interacted with a media representative. He said: “After the guarantees given by the state government, the Puntamba agitation was postponed. This is not a situation that will help much. Because basically agricultural commodities should get the right rates. The Center’s policy is important in determining the prices of agricultural products. The state government doesn’t get very involved.”
Furthermore, “Unfortunately today there is a mafia government throughout the country. Dirty politics is going on in the country right now. Seeing this hurts our minds today. Anyone from any caste should be able to live and breathe freely in these countries. Whether he is a pundit in Kashmir or a minority in Maharashtra, he should be able to live freely, as he is given by the Constitution. That is what Raju Shetty said this time.
“Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana has now decided to stay away from all parties. We will take our role and go before the people and take back the referendum.” Shetty said so.
At the same time, “we have decided to stay out of all of these, be it the alliance or the alliance. The central government has also done an injustice to the farmers. Chemical fertilizer prices have skyrocketed. The huge increase in diesel has led to an increase in production costs. The state government has left the peasants in the lurch.” That is also what Raju said this time.
