The president of the State Commission for Women, Rupali Chakankar, received death threats. The threatening call was received at the New Delhi office of the National Commission for Women. Within 24 hours, a threatening phone call was received at the office threatening to kill Rupali Chakankar. The accused is from Ahmednagar and further investigations are ongoing.
This was preceded by a threatening phone call.
Chakankar had received telephone threats twice before. Intimidating language was used by the harasser. A man had also threatened to set fire to Chakankar’s Dhayari office on Sinhagad Road in Pune. After that, Rupali Chakankar filed a complaint at the Sinhagad Road Police Station.
Who is Rupali Chakankar?
In October last year, the state government appointed Rupali Chakankar, head of the NCP women’s front, as chairperson of the Maharashtra State Commission for Women for a three-year term. Former BJP chief Vijaya Rahatkar resigned on February 4, 2020, leaving the post vacant.
