Ahilya Devi Holkar’s plaque was defaced at Kargani in Atpadi taluka of Sangli district last night (Thursday), so the atmosphere in the village is tense. Due to this, police security has been tightened in the village and today (Friday) a bandh was observed in Kargani to protest the incident.
It was learned that a plaque was erected at Ahilya Devi Holkar Chowk in Kargani village on the occasion of Rajmata Ahilya Devi Holkar’s birth anniversary. But last night (Thursday) a stranger knocked over the board. Later in the morning, after the Kargani villagers learned of this incident, a large number of young people gathered at Ahilya Devi Holkar Chowk. Angry youths closed the Kargani market and protested against the toppling of billboards. Due to the closure, all markets in the town were completely closed except for essential services.
The police from the Kargani remote area police station and the young people gathered in the chowk clashed. The youth protested against the police, claiming that they were using the Areravi language. Meanwhile, Police Inspector Sharad Memane rushed to the scene and sought understanding from the angry young man. The crowd calmed down after finding the person who tore down Ahilya Devi Holkar’s plaque and testifying to arrest him. There is a tense atmosphere in the town. Police coverage has been strengthened.
