The statewide Sugar Council 2022 program was launched today on behalf of the Vasant Dada Sugar Institute. In the inaugural program, NCP Chairman Sharad Pawar and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari gave detailed comments on the sugar industry, sugar cane harvest and farmers’ problems. On the other hand, Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana leader Raju Shetty praised Nitin Gadkari and criticized Sharad Pawar. “Nitin Gadkari’s policy reduced sugar production by 22 percent and increased ethanol production,” he said. But why couldn’t Sharad Pawar implement this policy when he was Minister of Agriculture for ten years? He has asked such a question. He was speaking in Solapur.

“Gadkari deserves admiration, but Sharad Pawar was the minister of agriculture. He was the Minister of Sugar Mills. Nitin Gadkari’s policy has reduced sugar production by 22 percent and increased ethanol production. But why Sharad Pawar failed to implement this policy when he was Minister of Agriculture for ten years? He needs to be introspective,” said Raju Shetty.

Furthermore, “The most important thing is that Pawar Saheb is telling the farmers that the debt owed to them is due to the balance of sugar in the sugar factory. The interest burden falls on the factory. Therefore, it is advises farmers to take the money in pieces. The sugarcane is in the farmers’ fields for 18-20 months. The farmers’ money is involved in this for so many months. Their interest is in it. This is not it’s being considered,” Shetty said.

“If Sharad Pawar is faced with the issue of interest in sugar, then he was Minister of Agriculture for ten years. NABARD was under his control for 10 years. NABARD was also working on his signal. NABARD has no shortage of funds. NABARD was able to raised or lent sugar to the sugar industry. As they give to the dairy industry. Therefore, the sugar industry would not have had to borrow from the District Bank or the State Co-operative Bank at 13 percent. It would have been only 2 percent and the sugar mills would not have had a problem,” said Raju Shetty.

Speaking further, he made serious accusations against Sharad Pawar, saying: “Sharad Pawar did not give any loans from NABARD when he was Minister of Agriculture because he wanted to feed the District Bank and the State Bank. The sugar industry earns Rs 3,000 crore in interest Sharad Pawar did the job of feeding the gangsters without looking out for the interests of the farmers,” said Raju Shetty.
