The monsoon already hit the Andaman Islands six days ago. As a result, southwest monsoon winds are also expected in Maharashtra soon. Meanwhile, the weather department has forecast thunderstorms in different parts of the state for the next three to four days.
Over the next four to five days, thunderstorms are expected in south central Maharashtra, southern Konkan and Marathwada until May 21. Around this time, a heat wave is expected in parts of central Maharashtra and Vidarbha.
On Thursday (May 19), Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur and Pune in central Maharashtra, Parbhani, Hingoli, Nanded, Latur and Osmanabad in Marathwada, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts in Konkan are expected to receive thunder showers. A heat wave is expected in Nagpur, Wardha, Akola and Yavatmal districts of Vidarbha on May 20-21. In the southeastern Arabian Sea, strong winds (40-50 kmph to 60 kmph) are expected.
Meanwhile, Osmanabad received rain with high winds through Tuesday night, while Satara, Sangli and Kolhapur received rain with thunderstorms in places. The rest of the state received no rain except in a few places. The highest temperature was recorded at 45 degrees Celsius in Wardha while the lowest was recorded at Mahabaleshwar at 18.4 degrees Celsius.
