Y: Vijay Shinde, Subedar of Khatav in Satara, was killed in an accident in which an army vehicle fell into a river in Ladakh. An Indian Army vehicle carrying 26 soldiers fell into the Shyok River. Seven soldiers died in the accident. Among them is Subhedar Vijay Sarjerao Shinde from Visapur (Khatav taluka) in Satara. He died a heroic death while serving the country. Due to this incident, Khatav taluka along with Visapur have drowned in the sea of mourning. He is survived by his mother, wife, two daughters and two brothers.
Vijay Sarjerao Shinde enlisted in the 22nd Maratha Light Infantry in 1998. For a period of 24 years he defended the country serving in various capacities in the Army. The people of Visapur have a military tradition. Vijay Shinde’s father, Sarjerao Shinde, was in the army, while his older brother, Pramod Shinde, is a paracommand in the army.
Currently Vijay Shinde post is in Leh Ladakh. He was serving as a Subhedar in the Army. An army vehicle fell into the Shyok river at around 9 am this morning as 26 soldiers were on their way to Hanif’s forward sub-sector from Partapur transit camp. Seven soldiers were killed and 16 others were injured in the accident. Subhedar Vijay Shinde was killed in the same accident.

Vijay Shinde’s body will be taken to Visapur (Khatav taluka) on Sunday (May 29). He will be cremated there at a state funeral.
