If you try to walk with your eyes closed for a moment, you have to stumble. Fear of where you will fall or not; But for the blind, the stick in his hand is the lamp. To make this stick more effective, students from the Department of Computer Engineering and Information Technology at Raisoni College of Management have created a unique ‘Smart Blind Stick’ in 3000.
The blind men carry red and white sticks. They face many problems like finding the direction while walking on the road, are we going the right way, some obstacles on the way, pit or not. With this in mind, Aishwarya Lunawat, Shubhangi Patil, and Durgesh Tayde, third-year Computer Engineering students at Raisoni College, decided to make a modern stick for the blind. From his research, a modern stick was made for just three thousand rupees.
The device is equipped with an ultrasonic sensor, a motherboard, a jumper cable, a battery, a GPS controller, a key, a water controller, a nine-watt battery, and a microcontroller. The vibrations in the rods give the blind the feeling of the five meter barrier. Pritam Raisoni, Executive Director of the institute, Pvt. Dr. Preeti Agarwal and Raisoni Engineering Pvt. Dr. Pranab Charkha said. The students received guidance from the computer department teachers to make this stick. This stick is made from drain pipe.
This ‘smart stick’ can detect obstacles in front, left and right. No matter which way the lever is turned, if there is an obstruction, instantaneous vibrations are generated. This makes the blind aware of obstacles in the way. The students said that GPS and alarm will be installed in this device by making further changes.
It has cost three thousand rupees to make this modern stick. We are trying to get a patent for this device. We will also try to create a better and less expensive ‘smart blind cane’ for the visually impaired, the students said.
The blind were seen to suffer greatly in daily life. I once saw someone trying to cross the street. The man also feared an accident. That’s where the idea came from. He proposed to his friends to make a device that would help the blind. We created this modern stick under the guidance of a teacher. – Aishwarya Lunawat, student
