Akola: Due to political apathy, the Akola district is on the verge of decline. Not only were new projects started in the district, but also previously approved projects elsewhere. The now sanctioned Bharat Battalion camp in the district was also moved to Katol after the headquarters of the livestock development board was moved to Nagpur due to lack of air transport. Political leaders and representatives of the people who reach any level for their own interests remain silent on all these issues.
Akola district is being hit hard by the inaction of the people’s representatives. Even the Mahavikas Aghadi government in the state has a distorted view of the district. Akola district was previously known as a developed town in Vidarbha. In the last two or three decades, Akola’s identity has been erased and the journey has started in the opposite direction. Akola is now considered a backward district in terms of development. This is clear from the text of the administration’s correspondence.
Project migration
Far from bringing new projects to the district, it is difficult to maintain existing or approved projects. The Indian Reserve Battalion No. 5 was sanctioned on 13th September 2019 in Shisa Udegaon and Hingana Shivara district. Initially the battalion would be based at Talegaon Badner Shivara in Telhara taluka. However, out of interest and political supremacy, the Cabinet decided to change the battalion to Shisa Udegaon and Hingana Shivara. This change caused much controversy in the Akola district. After the change of power in the state, when the issue was in abeyance, the Home Department abruptly lifted the ruling on May 12 and moved the battalion to Katol taluka in Nagpur district. Attempts to move the battalion began during then-Interior Minister Anil Deshmukh’s tenure. The special thing is that Akola, which used to be convenient, then became inconvenient. Reports from administration officials also conveniently change. Leaders need foresight, willpower, and political clout to get top officials to get the job done. The leaders in Akola lack vision. His punch is falling.
In announcing the decision to relocate the Indian Battalion, the Department of the Interior pointed the finger at Verma in the Akola district for “lack of air transportation”. The government decision detailed how Nagpur is a convenient central location and how it is unsuitable and inconvenient for the Akola district battalion. Didn’t administration officials know about this ‘wisdom’ in advance? Was the decision to sanction a battalion in Akola district due to political pressure? Or was the decision to move the battalion now made outside of the political domain? Numerous such questions arise on this occasion.
The Livestock Development Board headquarters also moved from Akola district to Nagpur about a year ago. The second consecutive project moved from Akola to Nagpur during the year. The reasons given for the hijacking of these two projects have a common denominator, namely ‘air transport’. Both projects were displaced due to the lack of air transportation in the district. It is the responsibility of the government to develop the district and provide all transportation facilities. In addition to enabling the district, the state government has made plans to relocate the project here. Raising the reason for the lack of air transport is, in fact, an embarrassment for the government. The Shivani airport issue has been pending for many years due to time-consuming state government policy.
There is no financing for projects.
The British-era Shivani Airport in Akola has been plagued by political turmoil. Five years ago a proposal of 87 million rupees was sent to the state government for the acquisition of the land needed for the expansion of the airport runway. The then Fadnavis government and then the Thackeray government did not take any decision on the matter. Funding is provided for other post-Shivani airports in Vidarbha, but the state government always turns a blind eye to the Shivani airport problem. On the one hand, the state government is rubbing salt in Akolekar’s wounds by trying to keep the airport issue in abeyance, on the other hand, citing the lack of air travel as a reason for moving the project here.
Rajouri terrorist attack: Two armed terrorists fired indiscriminately around 7:00 p.m. this Sunday in the Upper Dangri area of Rajouri, Kashmir, killing four people. Experts say that the price of wood from popular trees is 700 to 800 rupees per quintal. 250 trees can be planted on one hectare. The average height of a tree is about 80 feet.
