Relatives staged a sit-in at the CPR district hospital today (Thursday) under heavy rain, claiming that MSEDCL was responsible for the death of a patient at Unchgaon in Kolhapur. Bystanders have taken an aggressive stance that the bodies will not be detained unless a wrongful death case is filed against the proper authorities.
Amish Kale, who lives in Shantinagar, has suffered from lung disease for two years. After being treated in a hospital in Bangalore, he was treated at home with artificial oxygen (ventilator). MSEDCL had sought payment for their domestic electricity bills. He asked for time to pay the electricity bill since there was no one at home to earn money with. However, MSEDCL officials cut off power on May 30.
He is then treated at a relative’s house next door. This morning (Thursday) Kale died due to interruption in oxygen supply due to power outage. The body was later taken to Chhatrapati Pramila Raje Hospital for autopsy. Relatives staged the agitation under heavy rain, claiming that the MSEDCL was responsible for Kale’s death. Deputy Superintendent of Police Sanket Gosavi has promised to investigate and file a case.
