National Technology Day 2022 History, meaning: In India, May 11 is National Technology Day. National Technology Day is celebrated every year to commemorate the progress that India has made in the field of technology and science and the great achievements that it has made so far. In addition, there is a big event related to this day, so May 11 is National Technology Day.
On May 11, 1998, under the leadership of then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, India successfully conducted a nuclear test at Pokhran in Rajasthan. India conducted its first nuclear test in 1974. Some tests were then needed to prove technology related to nuclear weapons. Testing has not been possible since 1974 due to various international and political reasons. But in 1998, India successfully demonstrated its strength to the world by conducting five successful nuclear tests. The nuclear test in Pokhran was led by former President Dr. Conducted by APJ Abdul Kalam. This was followed by the first National Technology Day in India on May 11, 1999, the same day the following year. This day has been celebrated every year since then.
Furthermore, the importance of this day is reinforced by the successful test of Trishul missiles by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) on the same day. Trishul is a low-range missile that hits its target quickly. Apart from this, India’s first aircraft, Hansa-3, flew on that day. It was created by the National Aerospace Laboratory. It is a two-seater plane, used for pilot training, aerial photography and environmental projects.
Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had announced the celebration of National Technology Day to commemorate the contribution of Indian scientists and engineers. Since then, the Ministry of Science and Technology organizes special events on May 11 every year. For this, each year a theme is decided. Apart from this, many programs are also organized in the institutes of technology and engineering colleges on the occasion of the National Technology Day.
