Paris: Obese men are at increased risk of prostate cancer, according to research by French medical experts. Prostate cancer can be deadly in obese people, these medical experts say.
Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in men and the fourth most common cancer in the world, according to the World Health Organization. The prostate glands are walnut-shaped. These glands are located under the kidneys of men and help them transport sperm. The uncontrolled growth of cells in these glands leads to the development of prostate cancer.
Obese men have abnormal cell growth in the prostate, so they have a higher risk of cancer, the researchers said. To that end, the researchers examined all published studies on the subject. After examining the medical records of more than 25 lakh prostate cancer patients, this conclusion was reached.
Even a five-point increase in body mass index increases the risk of death from prostate cancer by 10 percent, Aurora Pérez-Cornago said. The research is published in the journal Biomed Central Medicine.
