New Delhi: At present, 80 cases of tomato flu have been detected in Kerala. They are all children under the age of five. Acne or blisters, itchy skin and dehydration are the main symptoms of this fever. It mainly affects children. Some cases of this fever have also been reported in Tamil Nadu.
According to medical experts, tomato flu is still an unknown disease. Not much is known about it. However, its prevalence is now seen in many places in Kerala. This fever causes red blisters on the body. That’s why it’s called ‘tomato flu’. The exact cause of the outbreak is not yet understood. The investigation is ongoing. Whether the fever is viral or a consequence of chikungunya or dengue, researchers have not yet been able to agree. It also causes abdominal discomfort, nausea, abdominal cramps, vomiting, diarrhea, coughing, sneezing, runny nose, fatigue, itchy extremities, and joint pain.
Prevention and treatment are as follows: Medical experts say children should be prevented from itching due to this fever. Because it causes more problems. Adequate rest is needed in this heat. This causes dehydration. Therefore, increase your fluid intake during this period. Parents should contact a doctor right away if their child has any of these symptoms. Tomato flu is a contagious disease like any other flu. In the event of any outbreak, the patient should be kept in isolation immediately.
