The OTT platform is not suitable for all Bollywood movies

The movies of many stars are ready and after a long wait, they are now released on the OTT platform. At the same time, some are still waiting for the big screen. Experts believe that the theater business will soon come back with a bang. Here is an interesting detail.

There is no doubt that Covid-19 has seriously affected the economic system. However, it seems that one sector that is really flourishing during this time is the sale (of Hindi movies) via OTT in India. When theaters closed at the end of March, many Bollywood movies went straight to streaming platforms.
The official list includes ‘Gulabo Sitabo’, ‘Shakuntala Devi’, ‘Dil Bechara’, ‘Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl’ and ‘Ghoomketu’. But Akshay Kumar’s leading man, Rohit Shetty’s ‘Sooryavanshi’ and Kabir Khan’s ’83 still uphold the policy of giving preference to 70mm.

Shibasish Sarkar, Group CEO, Content, Digital & Gaming, Reliance Entertainments, says: “Of course these are tough times, but some movies deserve to be experienced on the big screen. However, this does not mean that we are against the OTT culture. As for movies like ‘Sooryavanshi’ and ’83, we are willing to wait until the end of the year. If things don’t improve by then, we’ll see what to do. Every one of us, Ranveer, Akshay and the director, agree with this.

Zoya Akhtar’s next movie will be a crime drama, the couple of Ranveer Singh and Katrina Kaif can be seen.

Other films like ‘Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai’, ‘Coolie No. 1’, ‘Jayeshbhai Jordaar’, ‘Bunty Aur Babli 2’, ‘Brahmastra’ and ‘field’ also seem unlikely to release on OTT. These movies are also waiting for the big screen. Exhibitor distributor Akshay Rathi says: “The box office may be zero right now, but I think the allure of the big screen isn’t going anywhere. It may stop for some time, but as soon as everything starts to go well, there will be a great return from the theater business.

In the meantime, though, there’s a long list of movies being considered for OTT release. The list also includes Akshay Kumar’s ‘Laxmmi Bomb’, Ajay Devgn’s ‘Bhuj: The Pride of India’, ‘The Big Bull’, ‘Sadak 2’, ‘Khuda Hafiz’ and ‘Lootcase’. Some others that may hit OTT screens include ‘Chhalaang’, ‘Ludo’, ‘Jhund’, ‘Khaali Peeli’, ‘Mimi’, ‘Indu Ki Jawani’, ‘Roohi Afzana’ and ‘Shershaah’ while ‘Mukesh Bhatt , the producer of ‘Sadak 2’, says that it is his compulsion to go to the digital platform at this time.

Boney Kapoor, producer of the movie ‘Maidan’, says, ‘OTT platform is like a big boon for producers whose movies are ready and they can easily recoup their investment through this.’

Business analyst Taran Adarsh says: ‘This is just a phase, it will pass. It’s unclear how long a producer can wait for movie theaters to reopen. By the way, the magic of the big screen will never fade.

They are waiting for the big screen.
