Two Hindus, including a Kashmiri Pandit, have been killed in Kulgam in the last 72 hours after Yasin Malik, a leader of the Kashmir Valley terrorists, was sentenced to life imprisonment. Rajani Balla is a school teacher and Vijay Kumar is a bank employee from Rajasthan. Earlier in May, government employee Rahul Bhatt was killed by militants. In the last two years, 18 Kashmiri Pandits have been killed. While there is a propaganda that the Center has taken more drastic measures to eradicate terrorism in Kashmir, Kashmiris are falling victim to the plight of Hindus. The killings have once again sent shockwaves through fugitive Kashmiri pundits. Thousands of scholars were forced to leave the valley overnight in the 1990s. In Jammu and Kashmir, the reorganization of constituencies has been completed and the Assembly election process has begun. After the abolition of Kashmir monopoly in 2019, the political process in the new Union Territory accelerated. As this political process accelerates, Kashmiri pundits fear that terrorism will increase. That is why Kashmiri Pandits are coming to take to the streets to defend themselves. In 2008, the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh sought to rehabilitate 6,000 Kashmiri Pandits in Jammu and Kashmir under the Prime Minister’s Rehabilitation Scheme. Nearly 4,000 Kashmiri Pandits came to the Valley and started working in government agencies. It would be a disgrace to the Center if Kashmiri Pandits, who have been living peacefully for more than a decade, create new terror again and flee the valley. Prime Minister Modi himself praised the work of Kashmiri Pandits in the film ‘The Kashmir Files’. BJP leaders then began to show sympathy for Kashmiri Pandits. Since the introduction of the budget for Jammu and Kashmir in the Parliamentary Budget sessions, all BJP workers, from Union Ministers to BJP workers, have been pushing for the development of Jammu and Kashmir.

But if the Kashmiri Pandit returns from the valley, the waste of the Centre’s ‘Kashmir policy’ will be exposed. Because of this fear, the central and local administrations are preventing Kashmiri Pandits from crossing the valley. Security is being tightened around the temporary residences of Kashmiri Pandits in the valley and care is being taken not to let them out. Despite taking the Pandits to a ‘safe place’, it was a purely urgent operation that did not hide the unrest, discontent and dire situation in the Kashmir Valley. The fact that not a single BJP leader praising the development of Kashmir has spoken a single word on the assassination of Kashmiri Pandits reveals the reality of the Centre’s Kashmir policy! The sentiment that the central government and the BJP are planning for population change in the Kashmir Valley is universal and Kashmiri pundits are suffering from it. The Center, however, does not accept policy errors. Khayyam promised to rehabilitate Kashmiri Pandits who fled three decades ago.
