Shopping malls, restaurants and other establishments were opened in West Bengal on Monday after two months during the first phase of the lockdown relaxation under Unlock-1. The Mamata Banerjee-led government had already relaxed restrictions in the state from June 1 and has fully opened up jute, tea and construction areas along with religious sites. However, the government officially extended the lockdown period in the state till June 15.

After being relaxed under Unlock-1, a large number of people came out on the streets of Kolkata and appeared to violate the rules of social distance. There were reports of traffic jams from many places in the metropolis. Government offices have started functioning with 70 percent capacity and most of the private offices are returning to normal functioning. All state transport buses are operating, private buses are running less. This is causing trouble to the passengers as public transport like metro and train are still closed.
